Traditional Watercolor Landscapes

A forty minute drive from Comox to Paradise Meadows, west of Mount Washington Ski Resot, brings you to hidden treasures of marsh, ground covers, birds and trees of all ages. Some trees are disfigured by age, wind and the elemenst while others are festooned with moss. In the fal there are wild blueberries and a carpet of pink and organge leaves - Paradise indeed!

Beach Weather

In books by E. John Robinson who explains how to paint water in all its ways and depths, I decided to give this one a try. Following John’s instructions, I wet the paper and got to work. The cliffs were done by scraping the paint sideways. The juicy part of the paint created the formations. As th giant wave flowed up from the beach, I took a damp natural sponge and wiped off most of the pigment and this is the result!

Cliff Face

Itook a short drive from Comox, BC to explore Paradise Meadows, close to Mount Washington Resort on Vancouver Island, BC. As it was Thanksgiving weekend, I had plenty of copmany; families, lone hikers and a multitude of dogs. The first trail with a wooden boardwalk allows for safe walking and awesome views of marshes, trees, grasses and ground cover including blueverry bushes and more trees. Paradise indeed!

In Paradise Meadows

One day I received a call from a lady visiting with her husband from California. He went fishing and she came to my studio for painting lessons. I put on a DVD of a winter scene at her request and after some discussion we followed along with the artist in the video. She did well for a fairly new artist and both pieces were keepers!

Winter Dusk

I took a photo looking north while visiting the Grand Trunk trail, part of the Cruickston Park property in Southwestern Ontario. Something drew me to paint the scene, but with far more colour than in my reference photo.

North to the Grand

Kagawang River is in Manitoulin Island, Ontario. The highlight of Kagawong is Brial Veil Falls but if you descend the steps beside the falls, you will find a trail which meanders along until the shallow river flows in the North Channel.

This image is from my imagination. I wanted to have some warm colours in a winter scene. The falling snow was created by sprinkling salt on wet paint. Very effective here!

This art piece was purchased by a couple from Waterloo, Ontario and I delivered itto their home. I was delighted to find the paiting’s turquoise colored sky exactly matched the wall whre they chose to hang it, right inside their front door!

Here Comes The Sun

This image was researched and chosen specifically for my brother-in-law Bryan. The subject matter was discussed several times via long distance between Comox, BC and Uploders in Dorset, England. Bryan wanted trees which he got. This scene is from a glacier and lake in the rockies of Alberta, Canada. Since I was sending the parcel long distance, I decided to add a few more paintings giving him a choice.

Rock Rythms

A dear friend of mine brought her two adult grandchildren to my studio in Comox, BC for them to select one of my paintings. Penny quickly chose this one! I have often painted two pieces that work as a pair. Inevitably, one of them is sold quickly and the other one hangs around for a long time before it finds it’s rightful new home!
