Watercolor on Masa Paper

Artist John Constable (1776-1837) visited the English Lake District and painted this and other scenes. My own visit in 2003 missed seeing him by almost two hundred years but fells haven’t changed. Constable declared that he preferred the flatter, treed and more intimate land of Suffolk, where both he and I were born!

I visited other Constable scenes and have painted about a dozen of my own interpretations, including Salisbury Cathedral and several from Flatford, where the world-famous “The Hay Wain” was painted.
